There are three main levels of charging methods and stations available in the market to recharge electric vehicles. We’ll review all three of these.
Level 1 Chargers
Level 1 charging is the simplest way to charge an electric vehicle. All you have to do is connect your car to a regular 120 V household outlet via the cable that was supplied with the car. This type of charging however, is the slowest of all of the levels, taking around 20 hours to charge a typical electric car.
Level 2 Chargers
Level 2 charging is 3 to 7 times faster than level 1 charging, but separate hardware usually has to be purchased and installed. We recommend that all new purchasers of electric vehicles invest in a level 2 charger as level 1 charging rates are impractical.
Level 3 Chargers
Level 3 chargers use DC electricity instead of AC household electricity to charge an electric vehicle. They are extremely fast with charging times of 30 to 60 minutes. These chargers are usually found in public or commercial places. Not all vehicles are equipped to handle the fast charging times of level 3 chargers, so before using a level 3 charger, make sure your car is equipped to handle it.
